Headless Presidents

Family at Mount Rushmore with zero visibility until a 30 second break in the fog. It was like the first unveiling and everyone gasped and applauded when it appeared. Geoff and my mom were praying for a break in the fog.

Yesterday started great, we had a good breakfast, made good time to Mount Rushmore and really enjoyed the scenery getting there. When we pulled into the park, we got a call from Kristy's parents that they were about 20 min. behind us, so we hit the bathrooms and visitors center and waited for them to arrive. It was a little foggy, but we didn't realize that the visibility was getting worse by the minute. When Brent & Lynda met us at the entrance we headed up the walk way to take in all of the majesty... only it was gone... the fog had dropped down and completely covered the monument! (pictures to follow) We could barely see the bottom of the mountain! We asked how long it would take to clear and were told that it should be visible again the day after tomorrow. Bummer! We ended up walking the trail and eating lunch and praying for a little devine intevention. And it worked, just before we were getting ready to leave the clouds parted (for about 45 seconds) and we snapped a many pictures as we could (like 2). It was awesome! As we exited the park we decided to drive through a near by state park (Custer) to see some buffalo and other wildlife in the park. The road we took gave a whole new meaning to the term "back-road" (pictures to follow) and was complete with a corkscrew style figure "O" supported by logs stacked on top of each other. The road and park were pretty cool, but it did set us back a little (more than a little) which is why we are just now getting update the blog. I'm sure Kristy will have more to add tonight (as long as we don't have to find a hotel at 1am again).
